2020 AstroBlast: August 18th to August 23rd
August 18 - August 23
Come join The Oil Region Astronomical Society (ORAS) in Western Pennsylvania, and other regional amateur astronomers for the 2020 AstroBlast convention! The dates for this year's AstroBlast will be from the evening of Tuesday, August 18th, to noon on Sunday, August 23rd.
Important note: Due to the uncertainty of the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus crisis, please consider the dates for the 2020 AstroBlast starpary as tentative. The ORAS Board is monitoring the status of the pandemic and will make a final decision prior to opening registration in early June as to whether to hold the August event. That decision will be communicated both here and on our website listed below.
AstroBlast will be held at the new Bruce M Bedlow Observatory, located at a dark-sky site in southeastern Venango County, PA, which has a 30" f/3 Starstructure GOTO reflector telescope, a Celestron 14" SCT GEM pier-mounted telescope, and a Meade 14"LX200 equatorial tripod-mounted telescope, all under a roll-off roof.
Registration for the event will open later this summer, and attendees will be able to pre-register online, or during the event itself. We expect to have a full schedule of speakers on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, as well as some of our traditional AstroBlast activities, such as a nature walk, swap meet, doorprize raffle, and a Saturday evening pizza party!
