October 21, 2011 @ 12:00 am - October 23, 2011 @ 12:00 am EDT
Now in their 24th year of operation, Astronomy Camps are "immersion experiences" sponsored by The University of Arizona Alumni Association and are open by reservation to the general public. Participants become astronomers, spending hands-on nights using a 60-inch, a 61-inch, a 20-inch, etc. telescopes equipped with eyepieces as well as advanced instrumentation. The Camps are held at Mt. Lemmon Observatory (altitude 9200 feet) in the Catalina Mountains north of Tucson. Opportunities are available to engage in research at both beginning and advanced levels. Daytime activities include solar observing, interactive talks and activities led by astronomers, tours of the UA Mirror Lab, and hiking in the unique "sky island" environment.
