February 25, 2012 @ 12:00 am EST
On Saturday, February 25th, 2012, Indian River State College (IRSC) and the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society (TCAS) will host Astronomy Day at the Hallstrom Planetarium, Indian River State College, Fort Pierce, from 2:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Astronomy Day will provide an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the wonders of space. Daytime activities include planetarium shows, astronomy displays (touch an actual meteorite!) and informative lectures. Weather permitting; visitors can safely view the Sun’s spots from filtered telescopes operated by TCAS members. Activities will continue into the evening with more than 20 TCAS members setting up telescopes of various sizes and types for viewing of the night sky. If skies are clear, participants will view the Moon, Mars and other celestial objects such as nebulae, double stars, star clusters, and galaxies. At telescope clinics, TCAS members will discuss the components and features of different types of telescopes. Astronomy Day is free of charge and there is no need to register.
IRSC Hallstrom Planetarium, building N, is located at 3209 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce 34981.
