Astronomy Day/Earth Day 2007
April 21, 2007 @ 12:00 am EDT
National Astronomy Day is April 21 and Earth Day is April 22 this year, so we’ve decided to combine forces and celebrate both with a spectacular evening of events. Learn how to better care for the environment and what is in the skies above. As the sun sets, opening the heavens and land to us, we’ll have astronomy and nature activities for everyone featuring:
•TALONS! A Bird of Prey Experience,
•The Department of Environmental Protection and Connecticut’s Changing Environment,
•A Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation display,
•Nature and astronomy activities and crafts to take home,
•Special animal demonstrations and displays,
•See one of our box turtles paint an artistic master piece,
•A roaring bonfire under the stars,
•Join Staff Astronomer Jason T. Archer in the planetarium for Oceans in Space and Sky Quest planetarium shows. Learn about the search for life in Oceans in Space and discover the stars and planets of the night sky in Sky Quest,
•See pieces of the Moon brought back by the Apollo missions and meet a NASA Educator,
•Learn about time travel with Dr. Ronald Mallet, Ph. D., UCONN Professor of Physics (go to http://www.physics.uconn.edu/~mallett/main/book.htm for information on his new book),
•Bounce in our moon bounce,
