Comet Wirtanen Winter Skies Gaze
December 15, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - December 16, 2018 @ 12:00 am
Members of the Escambia Amateur Astronomers host bi-weekly deep sky gazes on Saturdays at Big Lagoon State Park west of Pensacola. The one on December 15th will come with Comet Wirtanen passing between the Pleiades and Hyades clusters, at its closest approach to earth in history. It should be a naked eye comet, and many other winter wonders will also be on display for binoc, scope, and astro photography users.
Recurrence Details: For the winter, our Big Lagoon gazes are held on the Saturdays closest to the quarter moons. We will resume out beach gazes at Fort Pickens and Pensacola Beach Pavilion in the spring.
