My name is Kathryn Law and I work for New Mexico State Parks as an Interpretive Ranger in the southeastern part of the state. During the last eight years, I have been presenting star parties on a regular basis in partnership with volunteers.
I am planning and coordinating our sixth annual astronomy weekend at Brantley Lake State Park located about 12 miles north of Carlsbad. We have named this event “Desert Starlight” and hope to attract stargazers from throughout New Mexico and Texas. This year’s dates are June 19 - 20 and I have contacted your organization to help get the word out. I hope that you will be able to post the following news release in your newsletter or on your website.
I hope to meet many of you at Brantley Lake State Park in June!

Desert Starlight Astronomy Weekend at Brantley Lake State Park
Brantley Lake State Park will be hosting its sixth annual Desert Starlight Astronomy
Weekend on Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, 2009. Brantley Lake State Park
offers dark desert skies and wonderful camping facilities along the shores of Brantley
Lake in southeastern New Mexico. All astronomers are welcome and the management at
Brantley Lake State Park is offering to waive camping fees for Friday and Saturday
nights for the first ten astronomers who register to participate. Participating astronomers
must bring their own telescopes and be willing to set them up for public viewing on
Friday and Saturday night. To register, call Joe Kasuboski at Brantley Lake State Park at
575-457-2384 beginning June 1, 2009.
