History Series at Lowell Observatory
October 13, 2012 @ 12:00 am EDT
This year we celebrate Arizona’s centennial with a series of programs highlighting the unique contributions Lowell Observatory has made to the scientific heritage of the state. Join us for the presentation, The Story of Big Red. Big Red is the nickname for Percival Lowell’s 1911 Stevens-Duryea, a vehicle he used for travel around northern Arizona. Hear the fascinating story of how the car was taken away from the Observatory and then rediscovered a half century later, resulting in its purchase and return to the Observatory by Lowell’s great grandnephew and current Observatory trustee William Lowell Putnam. In addition to this presentation, view breathtaking celestial objects through telescopes and enjoy exciting multimedia programs.
