Upcoming Astronomy Events

As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.
And if you’d like free copies of Sky & Telescope‘s Let’s Go Stargazing flyer or door prizes for your next star party, you can fill out this form.

Introduction to Astronomy

January 12, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - March 30, 2021 @ 7:40 pm EST

$150

Astronomy is intimately connected to our most basic need; the quest to know where we fit in the grand scheme of things. We’re lucky to live in a time when we’ve come to understand the basic rules of planetary motion, stellar evolution, and the origin of the universe. We still strive to reach further. Fortunately, we live in a new Golden Age of Astronomy, where the blend of technology and mathematics has led us to a time when startling discoveries are made almost daily. But the journey is far from over. We still have much to learn about the universe. To that end, Richard Bell, current president and lifetime member of the Kalamazoo Astronomical Society, offers a 12-week introductory online course in astronomy.

This is a class of personal enrichment. It is not for those that need to fore fill a college science credit, but for people that only care about enhancing their knowledge of the cosmos. As with any course there will be assignments to complete and exams to be taken, but no grades or credits will be given. This is a great way for people to challenge and better themselves while self-quarantining this winter during the pandemic.

Lectures will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:00 pm – 7:40 pm (eastern time) between January 12th and March 30th on Zoom.
