Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association's Outreach Event at the 2013 Grey fox Bluegrass Festival
July 18, 2013 @ 12:00 am - July 21, 2013 @ 12:00 am
The Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association will be in the High Meadow again this year. MHAA volunteers are looking forward to providing the folks attending Grey Fox 2013 with a unique and memorable experience. They will be setting up an observatory in the High Meadow with solar observation capabilities and optics that rival those found at many universities. Nine telescopes will be on hand for white light and H-alpha solar observation as well as views of objects in the night sky.Several of these telescopes will be large, custom made, award winning,
research grade optical instruments. They will astonish everybody that looks through them. There will also be an information booth to distribute free sun glasses for safe solar observing and educational materials that have been donated by the Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project, NASA, and Sky and Telescope magazine. Planned activities include green laser pointer tours of the night sky and presentations in the Family Stage Tent on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Dr. Willie K. Yee’s Star Trek Shuttle Craft Prius Zhang Heng will also be on display at the MHAA High Meadow site.
