Sky Interpretation at Fort Pickens Battery Worth
May 11, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - May 12, 2018 @ 12:00 am EDT
For 42 years, members of the Escambia Amateur Astronomers Assoc. have served as volunteers in service to the National Park Service and presented sky interpretation under the dark skies of Fort Pickens, part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. With help from our astronomy rangers, we present a video presentation at the amphitheater at 7:30 PM. We distribute star charts, point out passing satellites, tell constellation myths, and point out planets and bright stars. We adjourn to the telescopes as it gets darker for deep sky viewing and demonstrations on how to take beautiful astrophotos. Be sure to bring your own scopes, binocs, and cameras with tripods if possible.
On Fridays from March through October, the EAAA hosts sky interpretations monthly near the new moon. We set up at Battery Worth on Fort Pickens for a video presentation, followed by telescope observations in the parking lot.
