October 24, 2009 @ 12:00 am - October 25, 2009 @ 12:00 am EDT
The event consists of a series of astronomy talks and/or workshops, a key speaker, sun and star watches, and plenty of flora and fauna viewing. For this year’s StarFest, the planetarium refurbishment will be complete, and planetarium shows will be featured. The planetarium project began in November 2008 with removal of the 30-year old projector, seats, and dome. When completed, the planetarium will have stadium quality seating, a new dome, surround-sound audio, and fiber-optic and digital star projectors. This is a weekend retreat for amateur stargazers. We will have continental breakfast on Saturday morning, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and country breakfast on Sunday morning. Attendees will be able to unfurl their bed roll in one of the Park buildings and stay overnight. Since this is the International Year of Astronomy and the 400th anniversary of Galileo and the telescope, your StarFest Chairman has chosen the theme A View of the Telescope. Though there is still a search for a key speaker, we hope it will be on a topic related to the history of the telescope. We also will be inviting attendees to consider giving a short presentation or workshop on Saturday.
