Outdoor Center Observatory Grand Opening A Family Friendly Astronomy Day Event
October 16 (Saturday) 4 – 10 PM
Come celebrate the grand opening of our new Outdoor Center Observatory. Outfitted with a 16 inch Classical Cassegrain Telescope. The Larson Telescope has a long history of service to the Minnesota astronomical community. It saw first light as the principle instrument of the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and was later purchased by the Minnesota Astronomical Society and used as the principle instrument at their Onan Observatory location.
5-5:30 PM Ribbon Cutting and dedication ceremony featuring Jay Lotthammer
5-7 Pm Kids projects (art projects that features the stars, planets, etc…)
6-10 PM Bonfire and Refreshments, Pluto dogs, Saturn Smore’, Moon Juice
6-10 PM viewing through our new telescope. Our astronomer Jon Hickman will be on hand to show you around the night sky.
Several smaller telescopes will be set up and ready to explore the sky
Drawing for $10 gift certificate (Prairie Bucks) good for admission to future astronomy programs at the Outdoor Center.
