Upcoming Astronomy Events
As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.

Virtual VLA Tour: Juneteenth Special Edition
June 19, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm MDT
FreeEach summer, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) welcomes new students to our National Astronomy Consortium (NAC), an innovative program that provides research opportunities and long-term mentoring support to underrepresented students in the STEM fields. In honor of Juneteenth, we hope you’ll join us for this special Very Large Array (VLA) virtual tour led and presented by some of our NAC alum, where they will talk about the great work done by the VLA and how they’re utilizing it for their research projects.
This virtual tour will take place on Saturday, June 19, 2021, 1-2 PM MDT [Mountain Daylight Time, UTC/GMT -6].
Please note: due to radio frequency interference (RFI) we are unable to hold any events live from the VLA site so our virtual tours consist of the following via zoom from our offices in Socorro, New Mexico:
– a short introduction to NRAO
– a brief slide presentation on the tour topic
– interviews/conversations with guest experts
– live Q&A with our STEAM Ed team and guest experts
This event will take place on Zoom. Registration is required.
