Description:
Messier 4 (NGC 6121) is a globular cluster of stars in the constellation Scorpio, discovered by Jean-Philippe de Chéseaux in 1745 or 1746. The cluster is at a distance of just 7,200 light-years from Earth, considered the closest globular cluster to Earth until 2007, when the distance of the FSR 1767 cluster was estimated to be just 4,900 light-years from Earth.
