The talks will cover S&T’s past, present, and future, and how amateur astronomy has changed over the past seven decades. We will also give the premier showing of our 70th anniversary video, produced by editorial intern Shweta Krishnan. To watch the video, tune into the live video feed around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday.

If you’re in the Boston metro area and are interested in attending the event in person, visit CfA's website for more details. The event is part of CfA’s Monthly Observatory Night for the public.

S&T extends a deeply felt “thank you” to David Aguilar and Christine Pulliam of CfA’s public affairs office for organizing this event.

If you can’t watch the live feed, please visit the CfA archive about a week after the event.

In the meantime, watch video interviews with some of our editors.

I have been reading S&T since Feb. of 1971, and I always liked the blending of the logos for The Sky and Telescope magazines when the two were joined to make S&T. That logo has been changed a few times times to the run-of-the-mill one it is today, and I would love to see the original cover logo brought back. It had a singular beauty that the current one lacks. And a telescope!!

Firstly of course congrats to the 70th is pleasing to see that S&T survived successfully for so long and I hope you'll be around for a long time!
In reference to Doug's comment regarding the logo I couldn't agree more... I read the magazine since 1975 and it has followed me around the globe from Europe to Australia. When I think of S&T then I think of the "old" logo with the great typeset and the telescope...unique, really. No need to copy mainstream mags...

Cheers...shame that I can't make it to the party

Since my initial subscription in 1971, I look forward to receiving my monthly issue of Sky & Telescope. I too am one that still yearns for the original logo. I still recall my reaction the day I received my January 1980 issue and a new logo appeared. Years later the logo was changed yet again and the new logo style immediately reminded me of another magazine. The original logo had a special class all unto itself. The cover used to have nice images which now are in the background, as the contents are displayed in front of the cover image. Perhaps this is the current publishing trend.
I do wish Sky & Telescope a very Happy Anniversary with many, many more to come.

Sorry I missed this -- as a member of the "family" as editor for S&T, B&P and of course, SkyWatch, for a few years, I know that it means a lot to boast of the longevity of the magazine and all S&T's products. Best of luck and let's hope you get another 70 years!
