Date/Time of photo:

June 30th, 2015 @ 18:24 local time, 21:24 GMT

Equipment:

Canon 40D DSLR, EF 28-135mm lens @ 65mm (104mm 35mm-equivalent FOV), Manfrotto tripod & ball head; 8 sec @ f/5.6 and ISO 200.

Description:

On the evening of closest approach of Venus & Jupiter, I tried to setup my tripod to have a view of the event near my neighborhood. After several wide-angle shots with a mirrorless Nikon camera, I used a longer lens on a DSLR for a more detailed view. The clouds prevented me from including M44 in the frames. A bit unexpectedly, they did provide some framing for this shot. The Galilean moon Ganymede can be seen just East (up) of Jupiter.
