Description:

The two prominent galaxies in this image are NGC 5426 (left) and NGC 5427 (right). Collectively they are entry number 271 in Halton Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies (http://arpgalaxy.com/). Arp 271 is about 130 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. This interaction may be a preview for the merger of the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies in 5 billion years (https://esahubble.org/images/opo9734o/). I hope you enjoy!
