Homemade 50mm coronagraph
Description:
This is an image of the the solar corona taken by a homemade 50mm solar coronagraph using a 5303 Angstrom filter to catch the E-corona. The instrument uses a 50mm f/20 uncoated singlet lens, an occulting cone, a series of lenses, stops, spots to reduce background scatter and produce a telecentric beam for the heated 5303 Angstrom filters. It operates at about f/30, and the image was taken with a 0.5x reducer and an ASI1600MM Pro camera (30-second video of 500 msec images). A second image, taken with the filter off-band, was subtracted from this image to reduce artifactual fringes.
