Description:
This very carefully composed shot encompasses one of the most dramatic regions in the entire winter sky and is filled with bright and dark nebulosity and colorful stars. Just to the right of Epsilon is the main target here of NGC1990, which resembles a bi-color range of celestial mountains. A big surprise was the huge blue arc which occupies the right half of this image. I had never seen this so completely in an amateur shot before. It loops down and up and terminates at the "Teardrop" Nebula IC423. Note it is rimmed with a red outline. It and a beautiful blue bulb shaped peninsula extends into what appears to be a black dark nebula. Finally, for proper scale I put the Horse head nebula on the very lower left corner to give the viewer a sense of orientation and size
