Description:

Over the course of four mornings comet 220P/ McNaught moved towards the eastern horizon as Saturn moved westward. I planned on capturing the comet as it swung past Saturn and reoriented the camera FOV to maximize the capture to include the comet's lengthy tail. The four morning images were aligned to the starfield showing the comet's motion. The motion of Saturn became apparent when a four panel mosaic was made. Each morning's imaging session was performed with a twin RASA setup, one scope taking mono images while the other scope taking color. Due to brightness differences of Saturn (mag 0.8) and Comet 220P (mag 12.5) I had to temper Saturn's sizeable halo in order to see the planet's motion.
