Description:

In these images Comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke is magnitude 12.7, only 44 million miles from Earth and has a 0.055 degree long tail at position angle 260 degrees from the comet coma. Comet 7P was at perihelion in it's 6.31 year orbit on 27 May 2021 when it was 114 million miles from the Sun. The comet will make it's close approach to Earth on 12 June 2021 when it will only be 40 million miles from the Earth. It may brighten to magnitude 11 in July 2021.
