Description:

Comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke was discovered in 1819 by Jean Louis Pons and rediscovered in 1858 by Friedrich August Theodor Winnecke. The comets nucleus is about 3.2 miles in diameter. It is the parent body of the June Bootids meteor shower. Comet 7P will reach perihelion in its 6.31 year orbit next May 2021 when it may brighten to magnitude 11, it will pass 41 million miles from Earth in June 2021. In these images 7P was very faint at magnitude 19.6 and 209 million miles from Earth.
