Description:

There has been discussion about the possible disintegrating of Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS). These images are from 2025 January 20 UT (evening of 2025 January 19 MST). The color image shows a comet that has become less defined, but that could just be because the images are being collected under 2 degrees in a hazy orange twilight horizon looking over the desert southwest of Tucson. The images collected thru a red filter sill show a bright coma and a tail about 0.6 degrees long at a position angle of 100 degrees.
