Description:

This is what Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) looked like thru 8x21 binoculars on the evening January 14 as observed from Tucson Arizona, a bright white coma with a 0.3 degree long tail in a rich orange twilight background in perfectly clear skies. The image is an average of 22x50ms images taken at an altitude of 1.5 degrees with a FOV of 2.4x1.6 degrees. The 8x21 binoculars field of view is about 4 degrees, but this is what the comet looked like in the binoculars. The comet will be about 4 degrees above the horizon where the Sun set for the next several evenings, 15 minutes after sunset, take a look thru your binoculars.
