Description:
Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) slowly continues to get to get higher above the southwest horizon each evening for Northern Hemisphere observers and by October 10 should be visible to most shortly after it gets dark in the evening. In this image the comet was 5 degrees above the southwest horizon just as the evening sky darkened. The comet was magnitude 6.7 with a beautiful green coma and a tail visible to the upper left of the coma. The coma was 0.8 degrees wide and the tail 1/2 degree long in this image. The comet should remain about the same brightness for the next several weeks with the coma and tail becoming more visible as the comet gets higher in the southwest evening sky. It should be beautiful in larger binoculars, small telescopes and camera photos taken for 5 seconds or more.
