Description:
In this 10 second image taken from just north of Tucson, Arizona on the evening of May 6 MST, Comet C/2025 R3 is visible just as evening twilight is starting to fade with the comet 2.5 degrees above the horizon and just before the comet sinks into the thick atmospheric haze at this low altitude. Enough good stars were visible to calculate a magnitude of 5.6, the tail and coma are not readily visible in this 10 second image, a separate very ugly stacking of 6 images showed a coma about 5' wide and a short tail. For those in the Northern Hemisphere below latitude 35 degrees the comet will be visible for the next few weeks only several degrees above the WSW evening horizon just as twilight starts to fade assuming there is not very much haze just above the horizon.
