Description:

2,000 frames. AR 4246 : a sunspot group that has produced multiple flares, including M-Class, that can reach tens of thousands of miles above the photosphere. At about 9:00 along the rim, appearing as a forest of baobab trees, this complex prominence exhibits coronal rain: superheated plasma in the corona cools, condenses, and descends to the photosphere, resembling rain drops and following magnetic field lines. At 11:00, a coronal loop appears from an uncommon perspective of less than 45 deg. off axis.
