Description:

The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is composed of a dense column of gas and dust from the star-forming region IC 1396. Dark clouds contain the material to give birth to new stars The cosmic pillar, also known as vdB 142, rises for over 20 light years, while the IC 1396 complex and the associated young star cluster, about 3,000 light-years away, they cover a vast region of the sky in the constellation Cepheus.
