Description:

Also know as IC 405. The brightest looking star near the right middle of the image is named AE Aurigae. This star energizes the surrounding gas which is represented by the red colors, and it also reflects its light off the surrounding dust to cause the bluish colors. This combination makes it look like smoke (blue) emitting from the surrounding flame (red). The nebula is 1500 light years away in the constellation Auriga.
