Description:
This image shows galaxies tens of millions of light-years away in the constellation Virgo. The main ones are NGC 5364 (bottom left), NGC 5363 (top left), NGC 5360 (to the right of NGC 5364) and the trio NGC 5356, NGC 5348 and NGC 5338 (from left to right in the upper center of the photo). NGC 5364 is the largest galaxy in the group and is a majestic spiral galaxy, characterized by well-defined and imposing arms that unwind from a bright center, dense with ancient stars. It is about 54 million light-years away from us. The second largest member of the group (NGC 5363), just below the brightest star, is a lenticular galaxy about 65 million light-years away from Earth, which, given its apparent size, gives it a diameter of about 100 thousand light-years (similar to our Galaxy).
