Description:
This image, captured in the Paititi Reserve, offers a close encounter with a Geminid, one of the most spectacular meteor showers. Unlike most "shooting stars," which originate from the remnants of icy comets, the Geminids have a unique lineage: the asteroid (3200) Phaethon. This makes them the first meteor shower officially linked to a rocky body. It's important to move beyond the imagery of movies, where meteors streak across the sky endlessly. The reality is much more subtle. Activity is measured in averages of meteors per hour, requiring careful and unhurried observation. Light pollution obscures the finest streaks.
