Description:
The Helix Nebula (also known as NGC 7293) is a planetary nebula (PN) located in the Southern Hemisphere constellation Aquarius. Discovered by Karl Ludwig Harding, most likely before 1824, the Helix Nebula is one of the closest of all the bright planetary nebulae to Earth at 655 light-years. It measures about 2.5 light-years in diameter. These images represent 2 hours of exposure time through Hydrogen-alpha and Oxygen-iii narrow band filters, using a remotely accessed 500 mm reflecting telescope at the Siding Springs Observatory in NSW Australia. The image on the left is processed in Foraxx palette, and on the right in modified Hubble palette (HOO).
