Description:

1500 light years away in Orion constellation and near the bright star Alnitak, cosmic dust and energized particles give shape to a memorable figure. Barnard 33 also known as the Horsehead nebula is a dark nebula sculpted from stellar winds and radiation of nearby stars. In the background IC 434 glows with the telltale glow of ionized Hydrogen atoms. The cosmic dark horse is gazing upon its eternal companion, the Flame nebula at the bottom left of the image. This project took over one month to complete due to bad weather and poor shooting conditions under a bright moon and high humidity. The final image consists of over 10 hours of data.
