Description:

The Horsehead Nebula ( IC 434) is a dark cold cloud of gas and dust in the constellation Orion. It is 1375 light years from earth. The nebula is visible as a dark horse's head silhouetted against the bright IC 434 nebula. The Flame Nebula ( NCG 2024) is a fan shaped emission nebula also in the constillation Orion . The flame Nebula's red and orange hues come from the ionization of it's hydrogen gas by ultraviolet light from the nearby massive star Alnitak. I used a Askar 120mm APO telescope wthe a .8 reducer and a ZWO asi294 mc pro camera with a 7nm duel band filter from bortle 4 skis from my backyard observatory. I shot aprox. 4 hours of 4 minute exposures to make this image.
