Description:

The Sadr Region (also known as IC 1318 or the Gamma Cygni Nebula) is the diffuse emission nebula at the center of Cygnus's cross. Sadr is the white supergiant star at the center of this image. It is Cygnus’ second brightest star (Deneb is the brightest), and lies approximately 1,800 light-years from Earth. The nebulosity (rich hydrogen gas field) surrounding Sadr actually lies considerably further away (5000 light years).
