Description:

Located in the constellation of Cepheus, the Elephant Trunk Nebula (left) is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust thought to be a site of new star formation. The nebula lies about 2,400 light years from Earth, well within the Milky Way galaxy. This image is processed in the classic SHO Hubble palette which assigns the colors Red to SII, Green to Ha, and Blue to OIII.
