Description:
With emission (IC 434, NGC 2024) reflection (NGC 2023, IC 435) and dark (B33) nebulae, this is a treasure trove of varied light sources which I felt called for a mix of broadband and narrowband despite my Bortle 7 skies. I collected at least 6 hours of both over 13 nights over the winter. The Horsehead Nebula (B33) was discovered by Williamina Fleming in 1888 using photographic plates. It was initially credited to Pickering, and it took 20 years before Fleming received credit for her discovery. The iconic dark nebula is a patch of thick dust obscuring the light from bright emission nebula IC 434, behind it.
