Description:

IC 443 (Jellyfish Nebula) is a galactic supernova remnant located in the constellation Gemini, about 5,000 light-years away from Earth, toward the anticenter of our galaxy. The nebula has an apparent angular diameter of 50 arcmin (about 70 light-years at its distance). Its structure resembles that of a shell, with two halves of different radii and centers. An additional nebulous shell, initially attributed to IC 443, is now recognized as an older supernova remnant (G189.6+3.3), estimated to be around 100,000 years old. The exact age of IC 443 remains uncertain and is estimated to be between 3,000 and 30,000 years. The picture took several nights and a lot of rejected shots, because of weather and light pollution, which reduces the slice of sky photographable from my home garden.
