Description:
This star cluster is known as the "Intergalactic Wanderer." It is located in the constellation Lynx and at an enormous 300,000 light years away. This star cluster is located in a relatively sparse part of the sky compared to most other clusters, and so appears to be isolated and unconnected from our Milky Way, hence the name Intergalactic Wanderer. It is also one of the most massive and brightest star clusters, but doesn't appear that way because of its large distance away and its light is spread out significantly before reaching us. The two bright stars below the cluster are often used as pointer stars to locate this object. The Intergalactic Wanderer takes about 3 billion years to complete one orbit in our Milky Way, making it truly at the far edge of our galaxy.
