Description:

This image captures the International Space Station transiting across the full Moon on January 3, 2026. It was the first full Moon of 2026, traditionally known in North America as the Wolf Moon, and also a supermoon, occurring near lunar perigee when the Moon appeared slightly larger than average. The ISS transit occurred at 20:57:46 local time (China Standard Time) over Shanghai, China. The silhouette of the station crossed the lunar disk in less than one second, requiring precise orbital prediction, accurate timing, and high-speed imaging to record the event. The final image was created by selecting and stacking frames from a high-speed continuous shooting sequence to clearly show the ISS against the bright lunar surface.
