This time of year Arizona suffers its monsoon season with daily cloud buildup and thunderstorms. Sometimes the sky stays clear till late afternoon, so on the day of the Jupiter and Venus conjunction, I set up around 2 PM local time and started shooting until the clouds shut me out. Finding the planets was easy with the GoTo mount. But taking decent pictures was difficult! Venus was very bright and Jupiter, despite it being "King of the Planets," was pale by comparison. Exposing longer caused it to mostly wash out and disappear. My interest, though, was to capture both planets in a single exposure through the telescope without using any Photo Shop trickery. The only thing I did with this picture was increase the contrast.
