Description:
Lynds Dark Nebula (LDN) 1106, also known as Barnard 163, is a dark nebula in the constellation Cepheus. It is silhouetted against the large emission nebula IC 1396, not far from the famous Elephant Trunk Nebula. The dark globule resembles the shape of a jumping frog complete with bulging eyes atop its head, a torso, and extended legs with webbed feet at their ends. It sports a long streamer coming off its left side. Above it are the dark nebula LDN 1103 and 1104. The dark, dense portion to the right is LDN 1103 and the streaming dark nebula to its left is LDN 1104. The dark nebula in the upper right corner is LDN 1095 and the dark nebulosity all along the left edge is part of LDN 1101. Exposures: Ha:R:G:B = 600:70:70:65 minutes = 13 hours, 25 minutes total exposure, completely unguided.
