Description:

Known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, M101 is a face-on spiral some 21 million lightyears away in the direction of Ursa Major. This image was acquired with approximately equal exposures through R, G, B and H-alpha filters totaling 22 hours. Processed in PixInsight. Note that several of the red H-a regions are assigned their own NGC catalog numbers.
