Description:

The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42 or M42) is a diffuse nebula situated south of Orion's Belt in the constellation Orion. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and all that was visible the night before last, between the very bright, nearly full, moon and the hazy, cloudy sky. This was shot in short bursts (15 second exposures) through my 90 mm refractor with a color camera, all told, about 30 minutes of imaging time. M42 is located at a distance of 1,344 light years from Earth and is estimated to be 24 light years across. It has a mass of about 2,000 times that of the Sun.
