Description:

Seeing conditions were predicted to be above average 2 nights ago so I set up and wait for dark. The predictions were wrong, and the sky was milky haze, probably due to the warm weather we had and my close proximity to the evaporating ocean. Still, I targeted M51, The Whirlpool Galaxy to see what I could get. M51 is my favorite galaxy but it is still low at this time of year so I had to wait several hours for it to get high enough to capture. Due to the seeing conditions this target needed a lot of post processing to bring out details. The stars in M51s image suffered a little from all this post processing magic but I was focused on bringing out the galaxy, at the cost of nice round stars. I’ll reprocess this one someday to correct the stars.
