Description:

M64 is a spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices with a highly unusual dust structure covering part of the galaxy core. The outer part of the galaxy disk rotates opposite to the rotational direction of the inner disk. These anomalies are now thought to be the result of a merger with a small satellite galaxy that was roughly similar in mass to the Small Magellanic Cloud.
