Description:

Mars is now moving away from Earth. The apparent diameter of 13.9 arc-seconds is about as large as Mars will appear during the next opposition in February of 2027. This view of Mars shows the North polar cap above dark Syrtis Major, with the Hellas basin near the bottom. This high resolution image was made by stacking the best 15% of 360,000 frames over 24 minutes (250 fps). Software used included Firecapture, Autostakkert, Registax and Winjupos.
