Description:
Messier 22 (also known as M22 or NGC 6656) is a globular cluster located near the Milky Way bulge, the tightly packed group of stars near the galactic centre, in the constellation Sagittarius at a distance of 10600 light years from Earth. It is one of the first objects of this kind to be discovered and studied and it is also one of the nearest globulars to the solar system. The only globular cluster closer to us is Messier 4, located in the neighbouring constellation Scorpius.
