Description:

Messier 51 and its companion NGC 5195 are an interating pair and will very probably eventually merge. The merger will be after we are all gone. Humans will have evolved rather beyond our present state! I re-evaluated and re-processed this image to maximise signal to noise and for this image from a bright city sky and small 130mm reflecting telescope I am feeling reasonably comfortable. Total exposure was 27m 05s in necessarilly small 5s subframes.
