Description:

This lunar mosaic (composed of 8 panels), shows the craters Theophilus, Cyrillus and Catharina in high resolution. The colors seen in this image were emphasized during processing to reveal the different mineralogical composition of the lunar soil. The yellow-orange shades represent surfaces rich in iron but poor in titanium, while the blue shades are rich in iron and have a high amount of titanium. The photo is an LRGB composite obtained by combining two images. For the luminance, a 406 mm Newtonian, a Player One Mars -M II camera and an Astronomik G filter were used, while the RGB data were extrapolated from a "Mineral Moon" image obtained with a 200 mm Newtonian and a Player One Uranus-C camera in 2023.
